Il FARC/LAFAS č stato fondato nel 1989.
Le linee di ricerca sviluppate nel corso di questo decennio sono:
Valutazioni anatomo-funzionali dell'apparato stomatognatico;
Analisi quantitativa della morfologia craniofacciale nell'adulto e durante la crescita.
Modellistica e analisi quantitativa delle arcate dentarie;
Modellistica dell'articolazione temporo-mandibolare.
Presso il laboratorio sono stati sviluppati una serie di esami funzionali dell'equilibrio neuro-muscolare dell'apparato stomatognatico e sistemi di analisi tridimensionale del distretto dento-cranio-facciale. Le indagini vengono applicate sia per valutazioni funzionali sia per l'analisi morfologica e estetica durante l'accrescimento e/o le fasi terapeutico-riabilitative. Le procedure di analisi sono tutte non invasive (sistemi fotografici, optoelettronici, elettromagnetici) e si avvalgono di algoritmi di elaborazione appositamente approntati. Gli esami prevedono una fase di acquisizione dei dati che deve essere rigorosa nella procedura per garantire la ripetibilitą ed una fase di elaborazione che richiede un know-how specifico. Le metodiche sviluppate forniscono una documentazione sia qualitativa sia quantitativa utile per il ricercatore e per il clinico. Tutte le metodiche utilizzate sono state validate sulle principali riviste internazionali di settore.
I membri del laboratorio al fine di divulgare i risultati della ricerca scientifica e di interagire con differenti realtą professionali (medici, odontoiatri, ortodontisti, protesisti, chirurghi maxillo-facciali, chirurghi plastici, biologi, ricercatori delle scienze di base, osteopati, odontotecnici e operatori delle scienze dell'apparato locomotore) hanno fondato la societą scientifica SIB (Societą Italiana di Biodinamica Cervico-Dento-Facciale). Lo scopo č di promuovere l'applicazione clinica delle metodiche di valutazione della funzionalitą del distretto cervico-dento-facciale.
The FARC/LAFAS was founded in 1989. During these ten years, scientific research was mainly focused on:
Anatomo-functional evaluations of the stomatognathic apparatus;
Quantitative analysis of craniofacial morphology in the adult and during growth and development
Mathematical-geometrical models and quantitative evaluations of the dental arches;
Biomechanical models of the temporomandibular joint;
Clinical applications of basic research.
The laboratory has been involved in the development of a series of new functional tests for the quantitative analysis of the neuromuscular equilibrium of the stomatognathic apparatus. The morphology of the dental and craniofacial structures is quantitatively analyzed by three-dimensional instruments. The investigations can be aimed to the functional assessment, as well as to the morphological and esthetic analysis during growth and development and during treatment and rehabilitation.
The methods are all non-invasive (photographic, optoelectronic and electromagnetic instruments), and use original software developed on purpose. For all tests, data acquisition must be accurately standardized and repeatable, data analysis requires a specific know-how. The qualitative and quantitative results are useful for both the researcher and the clinician. All tests developed and used in the laboratory have been published on the main international scientific journals.
To make known the results of their investigations, and to interact with professionals from different backgrounds (physicians, dentists, orthodontists, prosthodontists, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeons, biologists, researchers of the basic sciences, physical therapists, osteopaths, dental technicians, physical education experts), people from the laboratory founded the Italian Society of Cervico-Dento-Facial Biodynamics (SIB).
The aim is to stimulate the discussion about the methods developed at the LAFAS in order to define protocols for the clinical application of the functional evaluations.
